So I had a lesson last week with Robin Eubanks, and he turned out to be rather inspiring. I went in there all nervous he was going to make me improvise, now I do improvise, but not at an advanced level and that was not what I wanted to talk with him about, turns out he didn't mind! I told him how I enjoyed writing and arranging and he asked to listen to what I do. So naturally I showed him my Skatitude recordings! He listened to ALL of them, enthusiastically! He then told me that on our next lesson to bring in more of my arrangements and compositions in all different styles and we continued to talk about writing for most of the lesson!
Now for the inspiring part. As it turns out Robin has an interest in arranging and I was he only person to have a lesson with him and not talk about my playing. He manages to be a big name in the music industry and he does it all! He plays and writes and has fun and makes money. This goes to show that there is a way for you to pursue all of your interests and still be able to make an impact and enjoy yourself!
In the past week, since this lesson, my practicing has had some renewed zeal and I have been writing and recording more than ever. I just wanted to share my small, yet inspiring story with y'all to hopefully bring a smile to your face and if you're an aspiring arranger/performer, like me, to give you some renewed confidence.
